Hardwood Floor
Installation
R. Randall Wood Floors will guide you through the process
of hardwood floor installation and help you make the appropriate choice
of flooring based on your budget and your needs. Brands such as Bruce
Hardwood Floors are a fantastic choice for pre-finished flooring, although
other products like Mirage are also of outstanding quality. Bruce Hardwood
Floors are available in an array of stains as well as wood selections
and have already been factory finished. The installation process entails
cutting the boards, placing them accordingly, and nailing them into place.
Raw hardwood floor installation requires the same procedure
as pre-finished flooring; however, it is manually sanded, stained and
finished with your choice of oil-based polyurethane or water-based finish.
We do not recommend finishing a hardwood floor with moisture-cured polyurethane
because of its highly volatile state, nor do we advise for a lacquer
and polyurethane combination to be used as it is prone to peeling due
to the poor bonding capabilities between the two. With our state of the
art dust containment system and our tried and true installation process
you will never have to worry about the integrity of your home or business
being disrupted. Regardless of which installation process you prefer,
your floors are sure to look exquisite.

Your hardwood floors can be installed at a 45 degree
angle, horizontally, or vertically depending on the direction of your
floor joist layout. A hardwood floor should not be installed in the same
path that the floor joists run in. Instead, they must always intersect
as this allows for a more stable construction. Using patterns like herringbone,
parquet, and various other hardwood flooring compositions can also achieve
the same stability. Whatever the nature of your design, a hardwood floor
installation is guaranteed to increase the value of your home as it is
a capital improvement. R. Randall Wood Floors will see to it that your
newly installed hardwood floors look magnificent and become a precious
asset to your home or business.
In the event that you already have hardwood floors in
some rooms and carpet in others we can provide you with the appropriate
designs and services that a smooth transition requires. Through the use
of saddles or borders we can achieve a consistency in elegance throughout
your home or office. Whether you are refinishing existing hardwood floors
or installing new ones, R. Randall Wood Floors is prepared to make the
experience as seamless as possible.
Hardwood floors are always an excellent flooring option
as they do not harbor the harmful allergens that carpets do, are not
as susceptible to cracking as tiles, and are the easiest to clean. (For
further details, please refer to our Hardwood Floor Care and Maintenance
section.) In addition to cracking and repairing difficulty, tiles
and grout are prone to growing mildew and retaining stains. Carpets also
stain easily and pets are more likely to soil them than they are hardwood
floors. An accidental wine spill can ruin a carpet and stain the grout
around your tiles, but hardwood floors are resilient to such mishaps
if the matter is promptly attended to. Due to their durable nature, hardwood
floors would be an asset in any home or business and R. Randall Wood
Floors will ensure that they look attractive while maintaining their
practicality.

Refinishing Hardwood Floors
In case your floors have undergone a severe amount of
wear and tear and have been damaged due to high traffic patterns our
able employees and our techniques in refinishing hardwood floors can
restore their excellence. We begin refinishing hardwood floors by sanding
them down to bare wood while using our advanced dust containment system
that virtually eliminates the creation of debris. Next we stain the floors,
if you so desire, and finally coat them with your choice of finish. R.
Randall Wood Floors will make your hardwood floors look flawless.

Repairing, Recoating, and Restoring Hardwood
Floors
If your floors have become dull our techniques in restoring
hardwood floors can reinstate their original luster. During the recoating
procedure we gently scuff the surface of the hardwood floors so that
a fresh coat of finish can adhere to them. This method will form a new
surface layer that will accentuate the wood grain and make your floors
look immaculate again.
Repairing hardwood floors would occur if damaged boards,
such as those that have suffered accidental gouging, are in need of replacement.
In such a case, we would substitute the disfigured boards with new ones,
and then proceed with the refinishing hardwood floors procedure mentioned
above so that the repairs could not be detected. Whether your floors
are raw wood or a pre-finished brand of flooring such as Bruce Hardwood
Floors, repairs become a necessity from time to time due to unforeseen
circumstances that may have caused nicks or scratches. R. Randall Wood
Floors has been restoring hardwood floors, as well as installing and
refinishing them, for over a decade, always leaving them in an exceptional
condition that only emphasizes the character of your home or business.

Designing Unique Hardwood Floors
During your free estimate and consultation, Roger will
show you a portfolio with examples of wood selection, stains and finishes,
and suggested design ideas. You can explore unique hardwood floor designs
that include borders, “area rugs”, and medallion inlays,
as well as a myriad of other patterns to form your home into a distinctive
work of art by utilizing raw wood or Bruce hardwood floors and other
pre-finished flooring. Borders can highlight a section of a room when
they act as a permanent “area rug”, operate as a partition
between rooms, or simply decorate a space. Medallions achieve a similar
effect as borders when it comes to accentuating a particular area such
as a foyer entrance. Patterns, like herringbone and parquet, can be used
throughout the entirety of a room or in a precise area to create a focal
point. Borders, medallions, and patterns can all generate a sense of
imaginative yet functional art throughout your residence or business.
They can be put into pre-existing flooring or during the installation
process of a new floor. Whether you seek to achieve a traditional or
extraordinary look for your floor and your surroundings, R. Randall Wood
Floors will assist you in bringing your dreams to fruition.

Hardwood Floor Care and Maintenance
The beauty of hardwood floors is that they are so elegant
in appearance and virtually effortless to care for. Whether your floors
are pre-finished like Bruce hardwood floors, or raw wood that has been
stained and finished, the preservation process is the same. Before washing
your floors we suggest vacuuming them with a floor attachment so as to
prevent any debris from scratching them while you wash. We do not suggest
using any oil, silicone, or wax based products. Instead, we recommend
glass cleaner diluted with water, or white vinegar diluted with water,
accompanied by a soft mop. Clean a 5' by 5' area with the solution then
dry it immediately as air drying will cause a dull and hazy appearance
of your floors. For daily dusting we advise using a dry, soft cloth or
mop. To recap, all you need to do is vacuum any debris, mop with tepid
solution, and dry. Following these three easy steps will leave your hardwood
floors sparkling.
